Magic Millions Sale, January 2009 NEW SEASON’S Sires

There are several first season sires selling for the first time in a sale that may well be a blood bath for vendors. The de-leveraging of borrowed equity of the markets around the world will arrive in the racehorse market, nothing is surer.  Makes one wince when you consider the extravagant expenditure of the last sales round where new entrants supported what may have already have been a market ‘off the boil’...

I believe this opens the market up to some exceptional bargains for the astute buyer. I have made a special study of these stallions selling for the first time, with a special focus on – Jet Spur, Bradbury’s Luck and God’s Own. All were special racehorses of tremendous talent and in two cases, injury curbed their careers. John O’Shea trained the 3 yr old career of Jet Spur and he has often stated that he thought Jet Spur up to that time was the fastest sprinter he trained. Might be the sleeper amongst the new stallions. A top racehorse and one I have encouraged clients to use when designing matings, I paid special emotional attachment to his offering here. I saw him at Taylor Made Farm in Kentucky 5 days after he had arrived from the trainers’ yard...impressed me a lot then, I remain a believer that he will do very well here.
